Smartsuites Storm Damage Triggers Advanced Backup Plan

Thunderstorms in recent days have caused damage to the Smartsuites dormitory.  Damages sustained by Smartsuites include the disabling of all door code locks, the unavailability of the wireless Internet, the ceasing of elevator operation, and the triggering of false fire codes.  The Smartsuites support staff responded to these damages by troubleshooting and by placing unplanned overnight orders for repair parts (some of which were not immediately available).

In order to better plan for such events in the future, the support staff is working on a plan for improved residential support.  Orders are now being placed for a surplus of spare parts for many of the systems and services offered in Smartsuites.  In addition, the IT department is exploring the possibility of installing system-wide surge protection.  Please contact Student Services with any suggestions that you might have for steps that we can take to be better prepared for future damages and outages at Smartsuites.
